Tragedy may happen on the other side of the globe, but it can still hit close to home. The terrorist attack and tragic deaths of 338 people, many of them children, at a school in Beslan, Russia stirred feelings of concern and compassion throughout the sister city movement.
The sister city organization in Asheville, N.C. has been leading a relief effort to help victims and their families in Beslan. To date they have raised more than $7,000 in cash and obtained boxes of donated school materials, clothing and medical supplies. Asheville Sister Cities is not longer accepting cash donations, however is still accepting supplies - so it is not too late to help! Donations can be sent to Asheville Sister Cities Inc.; 39 Patton Ave.; Asheville, NC 28801. Checks can be made payable to Asheville Sister Cities Inc.
