Sister City Programs
Morehead, Kentucky and Yangshuo, China
On March 26, 2006, Morehead Sister Cities and Yangshuo, China celebrated together at a Wheelchair Distribution Ceremony in Yangshuo, China. 163 wheelchairs and handicap tricycles were distributed in Yangshuo - 93 of them donated by Morehead, Kentucky and the rest from White Lion International. Betty Cutts, chair of the Morehead-Yangshuo Sister Cities Program, added that "the logo of the chairs was designed to show friendship between America and China- thus Wheelchairs for Peace."
Morocco Trip - March 2006
A delegation of 42 members participated in a goodwill mission to Morocco led by Mary Jean Eisenhower, granddaughter of former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Sherman Banks, President of the Sister Cities International Board of Directors. The delegation visited Rabat, Fez, Marrakech and Casablanca to attend meetings with key officials to speak about setting up new sister city ties and strengthen existing linkages. The delegation held a conference in Casablanca entitled, "Reaching Out to Your Global Neighbors through Citizen Diplomacy: Promoting Islamic- U.S. Relationships." The delegation's visit to Morocco was part of the Islamic Peace and Friendship Initiative. More than 150 wheelchairs were distributed to residents during the trip.
