About Sister Cities International Membership

About SCI Membership

Membership in Sister Cities International is open to cities of all sizes, counties, states, international cities, and individuals. Members are a part of a network of citizen diplomats from over 500 U.S. communities with partnerships in over 2,000 cities in over 140 countries around the globe. All members have access to Sister Cities International’s Members Area section of our website as well as the support of our staff with years of experience working on hundreds of sister cities programs. City Membership

City membership in Sister Cities International is open to all U.S. cities. Membership provides all members of local sister city programs, as well as municipal officials, access to Sister Cities International’s wealth of resources and staff expertise. Members can take advantage of numerous toolkits, templates, visa resources, networking opportunities, communications support, instructive webinars, and grant opportunities available exclusively to Sister Cities International members, in addition to having access to a worldwide network of municipal officials, sister city programs, NGOs, and other city-twinning organizations. Our staff are available to assist any sister city program, from those newly formed to those that have been around for over 50 years, with resources, expertise, and networking. All members also are listed in Sister Cities International’s City Directory and Annual Membership Directory, the go-to source for current sister city programs distributed to thousands of individuals, NGOs, companies, and governments around the world. Annual membership dues are based on a city’s population. To find out if your city is already a member please visit our City Directory.

County and State Membership

Counties and states can also benefit from Sister Cities International membership to build relationships with other counties, states, regions, prefectures, or other similarly sized administrative areas around the globe. Sister Counties and Sister States receive the same benefits as city members to help them expand and improve their relationships with other communities abroad.

Annual membership dues for counties, like cities, are based on population size. States can become members for a flat rate of $1,260. Please note that membership in Sister Cities International only applies to county or state programs, and does not extend to all cities located within a county or state.

Global Member

Global membership is available to all cities, counties, regions, prefectures or other administrative areas outside of the United States. Global members gain access to Sister Cities International’s Members Area section of our website. Global members seeking sister cities in the U.S. will also be promoted in emails and communications to thousands of Sister Cities International members and local leaders.

Individual Member

Individual membership is available to citizens not currently affiliated with local sister city programs who wish to learn more about the starting their own program or who have a passion for citizen diplomacy. Individual members have access to the Members Area section of the website and can utilize staff support as they work to build a local program.
