SCI BOARD MEMBER COLE TO PROVIDE KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT
UN DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM IN ROTTERDAM
Speech to focus on Urban Poverty Alleviation Projects in Africa

Washington, DC — Sister Cities International's Board of Directors Chair-elect, Brad Cole, will provide the keynote address at the United Nation's 7th Annual World Alliance of Cities Against Poverty on February 23 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. More than 1,500 attendees representing government, for-profit, NGO, and nonprofit organizations from around the globe are expected to attend.

Cole's presentation will focus on fighting poverty at the local level and will highlight Sister Cities International's African Urban Poverty Alleviation Program (AUPAP). AUPAP is a three-year program, which uses U.S.-African sister city relationships to address health, sanitation and water needs in urban areas of Africa, and was made possible through a $7.5 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The Sister Cities model provides an opportunity for U.S. cities to collaborate with cities around the world to combat climate change. Since 2008, Sister Cities International has encouraged its members to increase their sustainable development projects. As a result, cities such as Duluth, MN and Chicago, IL have greatly increased their efforts in this area by developing projects that will increase green building in their communities.
