Advocacy

In an effort to raise visibility for individual sister city programs and increase support for the network, Sister Cities International makes it a priority to extend its educational and branding campaign to Capitol Hill and throughout U.S. departments and agencies.

Sister Cities International’s goals include educating Congress on its mission and the work of its members, closing the feedback loop between the federal government and our members’ inquiries, and creating awareness of the importance of increased funding for the State Department and other internationally-focused organizations.

Increasingly, members of the Sister Cities International network have begun to explore opportunities for economic development between local programs and their sister city counterparts, resulting in a greater interest by Congress in the impact of sister city programs on local economies. Sister Cities International seeks to educate representatives on Capitol Hill about the return on investment that can be seen locally when federal dollars are dedicated to international exchange programming.
