Coalition Building:

Sister Cities International is a member of several important international coalitions in Washington, D.C. that promote and support citizen diplomacy and exchange initiatives. They are:

Coalition for Citizen Diplomacy
The Coalition for Citizen Diplomacy (CCD) is a broad-based coalition of international exchange organizations, educational institutions, communities, corporations and local governments. The primary goal of the coalition is to lay the groundwork for the convening of a National Summit on Citizen Diplomacy, which will set the stage for a new vision and articulation of priorities and goals for citizen diplomats in the 21st Century. Launched in March 2004 by a group of thirty-two leaders from throughout the United States, the CCD is coordinating the various activities leading up to a National Summit in July 2006.

Earth Legacy Campaign
Led by a non-partisan coalition of environmental and foreign affairs groups, the Earth Legacy Campaign commenced on June 4, 2004, at the World Environment Day Celebration in San Francisco. The goal of this alliance is to seek a larger U.S. role in addressing global environmental issues.

The Alliance for International Educational and Cultural Exchange
The Alliance is an association of nonprofit organizations comprising the international educational and cultural exchange community in the United States. Its mission is to formulate and promote public policies that support the growth and well-being of international exchange links between the people of the United States and other nations.

The Coalition for American Leadership Abroad (COLEAD)
COLEAD is a broad based non-profit organization consisting of 50 foreign affairs organizations that are dedicated to furthering well informed public debate about international issues affecting U.S. interests.

The U.S. Global Leadership Campaign
The U.S. Global Leadership Campaign is a coalition of over 300 business and organizations dedicated to supporting a strong international affairs budget and promoting U.S. global engagement. The Campaign is committed to demonstrating to decision-makers in Washington that the small change - one penny of every federal dollar - spent on U.S. international affairs programs makes a big difference in the security and prosperity of the United States.

The Glocal Forum
The Glocal Forum is a non-profit organization working to build a new relationship between the city and the global village with the aim of contributing to peace and development. Through city-to-city project activities in fields critical for sustainable development and peace, the Glocal Forum brings together mayors, international institutions, private sector leaders, citizens, and urban communities. The Glocal Forum aims to create a more equitable balance between the global and the local through a new pattern of diplomacy - the diplomacy of cities.

"Agenda 21: The Rio Declaration on Environment and Development"
Agenda 21 is a comprehensive plan of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally by organizations of the United Nations System, Governments, and Major Groups in every area in which human beings impact the environment.

"City-to-City Cooperation: Issues Arising from Experience"
An interim report prepared as a contribution to discussions on decentralized cooperation at the IULA/UTO Unity Congress, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, May 3-6, 2001 and City-to-City Cooperation at the 25th United Nations General Assembly Special Sessions (Istanbul+5), New York, June 6-8, 2001.
