Categories of Membership
Voting Members
- By Population: U.S. cities, counties, and territories (including towns, villages, or incorporated areas) pay Sister Cities International membership dues based on the size of their jurisdiction. See below for the breakdown of membership dues by population.
- U.S. States: Sister Cities International encourages all U.S. state governments to develop sister city relationships.
- Global Members: International communities that have a recognized sister city relationship with a U.S. community qualify for a special global membership rate.
- Municipal Associations
Non-voting Members
- Global Members: International communities that have do not have a recognized sister city relationship with a U.S. community may still join the Sister Cities International network.
- Corporations

Dues Structure
Annual membership dues for U.S. and international communities, except for states, are based on population (in $U.S.). All others pay a set fee.
