About Sustainable Development

The mission of Sister Cities International's Sustainable Development Department is to promote citizen action and cooperation on environmental and energy issues, humanitarian efforts, and economic development.

Our goals are to:

  • Support members of the Sister Cities network in all sustainable development activities
  • Promote cooperation on sustainable development as a component of long-term city-to-city relationships
  • Promote public-private partnerships, particularly at the municipal level, that promote sustainable development
  • Educate individuals and organizations in the sustainable development field about the Sister Cities network and mission

Using the Sister Cities International model, sister city partnerships will promote the participation of local citizens at all levels of program development, including identifying project areas, suggesting and designing solutions, overseeing implementation and evaluating results.
