The 2006 Partnership & Peace Tour - Morocco brought 45 Sister Cities International volunteers, leaders, government officials, and supporters to explore the extraordinary world of the Kingdom of Morocco. The Tour leaders, Mr. Sherman Banks, President of the Board of Directors for Sister Cities International and Ms. Mary Jean Eisenhower, President and CEO of People to People International, navigated participants through the cultural riches in the cities of Rabat, Fez, Marrakech and Casablanca. At the end of the Tour, a one day conference titled "Reaching Out to Your Global Neighbors Through Citizen Diplomacy: Promoting Islamic - U.S. relationships" convened in Casablanca at the Royal Mansour Meridien Hotel.

Trip Highlights Included:
  • Hassan Tower and Mohammed V Mausoleum in Rabat
  • The Imperial City of Meknes
  • The ancient Roman city of of Volubilis, 3rd century B.C.
  • The holy city of Moulay Idriss where the tomb of Moulay Idriss, the founder of the first Arab dynasty in Morocco, is to be found
  • King's Palace, Jewish Quarter, Arab Quarter in Fez (the most complete remaining medieval city in the world)
  • Dar Said Museum, Kotoubia Minaret, the Pathia Palace, and the Royal Garden in Marrakech
  • United Nations Square, Royal Palace in Casablanca and a visit to the second largest mosque in the Islamic world after Mecca, Saudi Arabia
  • One-day conference tentatively titled "Islamic Dialogue: The Future of Citizen Diplomacy"

Special Events:
  • Reception at the U.S. Ambassador's residence in Rabat
  • The Imperial Ball at Zalagh Parc Palace Hotel in Fez
  • Lunch in a Moroccan Home
  • Dinner in Marrakech at "Chez Ali" accomponied by royal entertainment that will include Berber tribal music, dancers, musicians, acrobats, horsemen, and magicians
  • NEW - Formal Closing Gala at the Mechouer, Casablanca, a palace that resembles an Andalusian mansion in Cordoba
  • COMPLETE CASABLANCA PROGRAM WILL BE POSTED SHORTLY!
