Young Artists Showcase

Information for Sponsoring Cities

"Peace is at Hand"
Danny Bell
Red Wing, MN

Does your sister city program want to:

  • Engage the next generation of citizen diplomats
  • Work with local high school art and English teachers?
  • Receive local, regional, and international notoriety?
If you said yes to any one of these items then your sister city program should encourage the youth in your community to participate in the 2010 Young Artists & Authors Showcase.

Who is eligible to participate?

The Showcases invite youth between 13 and 18 years of age to participate. The Artists Showcase is open to all visual arts media and the Authors Showcase is open to all essays and poetry. Each city is encouraged to enter one piece of artwork from a local artist and from each of their sister cities.

What is this year's theme?

The 2010 theme Your World… is an opportunity for young artists and authors to answer the question, "What makes you, you?" International travel and cultural exchanges can impact lives in many different ways. Young artists and authors are asked to show how cultures and experiences have impacted their ideas and perspectives of the world.

What is required of the sponsor sister city?

Being a Young Artists & Authors Showcase Sponsor is an easy and inexpensive way to expand your sister cities' reach. Each city is responsible for paying for the matting and shipment of each submission. Following the national competition, hosting an art exhibition is optional and would also be at the sister cities' expense.

What does the sponsor sister city receive?

Your program will have an easy national program to replicate locally, engage local high schools and young people and the added benefit of engaging its next generation of members and leaders. Your program will also be recognized at the 2010 Sister Cities International Annual Conference in Albuquerque, NM, July 29-31.

Share this information with your local middle and high schools today.
All entries must be received by Sister Cities International by no later than Friday, April 30, 2010.
