FOR STUDENTS
Guidelines and Tips for the Young Authors Showcase
Interpreting the Theme
Judges do not expect to see a globe or your neighborhood, although some may appear as creative elements of your artwork - but rather the theme is intended to allow you to share your vision of your world through your artistic abilities... think outside the globe.
Eligibility and Media
- Each participating student author must be between 13 and 18 years of age at the time entries are due April 30, 2009.
- Each participant is allowed to submit only one entry.
- This contest is open to students from all countries. Member communities are allowed to submit entries from multiple participants.
- All work must be original and inspired by the theme. Entries may not be plagiarized, stolen, or copied from any other source and must not defame or invade the rights of any person, living or dead. Entries not adhering to these guidelines will not be considered.
- Each entry must be sent with a completed official entry form and the entry fee.
Awards
- One international winner and one from the U.S. will be selected from each category
- Winners will receive complimentary registration to the Annual Youth Leadership Conference and $1,000.
- Winning pieces will be published on the Sister Cities International web site and in the Sister Cities International eNews.
Writing Tips
- This should not read as an academic assignment, but rather a reflection on your ideas regarding the topic
- Be concise and organize your thoughts before you write
- Be creative and do not depend on dictionary definitions or academic sources
Judges Will Be Looking For
- Clear organization and structure of your essay
