How to Conduct Your Own Virtual Race
What is a Virtual Race?
A virtual race is a race or walk held simultaneously in any other city on the same day as our 5K in Washington, DC. Last year, virtual races were held in Ft. Worth, TX; Palatine, IL, Fontenay-le-Comte, France; and Cluj Napoca, Romania. This year, we have added a Kids Fun Run to our event, inviting families and children of all ages.
Why should I hold a Virtual Race?
In Washington, D.C., our race and festival allows the local community to show support and commitment to advancing world peace and the importance of being engaged global citizens. Conducting your own event can show your commitment to world peace, help strengthen awareness of global citizenship, and raise funds for your local sister cities program.
How can I conduct a Virtual Race?
Conducting your own race or walk is very easy and can be done in just a few steps.
- Map a 5k (or any distance) throughout your town using www.mapmyrun.com.
- Inform your community about the event through email and press releases.
- Order T-shirts from Sister Cities International, uniting your event with the race being held in DC.
- Take pictures and video of your race and share them with Sister Cities International, so that we can feature them online.
