Social Development
The Role of Social Development in Sustainable Development
In order to enact truly sustainable development, social development should accompany good governance and sustainable economic development. This type of growth focuses on improving the quality of life and opportunities for all members of a community or region as well as paying attention to the cultural history of an area.
If a city or region is to grow, it must first recognize from where it has come. Engaging in projects for social development requires a level of self examination for all members of society as well as a desire to improve a community's overall well-being by addressing key social policy issues such as affordable housing, basic education, accessibility, equal opportunity and poverty alleviation. Social development is considered one of the three pillars of sustainable development, along with environmental protection and sustainable economic development.
Specific issues members of the Sister Cities Network for Sustainable Development may focus on include:

Affordable Housing
