Sister Cities International

Global Membership

As Global Members, international communities may become a member of Sister Cities International as long as their U.S. sister city is a member of Sister Cities International. For all international communities wanting to join as a Global Member, the dues are $140 annually. This price is made possible to the international communities because their U.S. sister city is a member of Sister Cities International. However, there are three caveats to Global Membership in comparison to population-based international membership.

Global Members vs. Population based (International) Members

All international communities that have a U.S. sister city, and their U.S. sister city is a member of Sister Cities International, have the option of joining as either a Global Member or a Population based (International) Member.
All international communities that have a U.S. sister city, but their U.S. sister city is not a member of Sister Cities International, are not eligible to join as a Global Member. These communities must join under the population based membership dues structure.
All international communities that have a U.S. sister city, and the U.S. sister city is a member of Sister Cities International, and the international community would like full governance rights*, the international communities are not eligible to join as a Global Members. These communities must join under the population based membership dues structure.

*According to the by-laws of Sister Cities International, any community that comes in as a Global Member is only allotted two votes at the annual business meeting held each year during the Sister Cities International Annual Conference. Any international community that would like their full allotment of votes, three if their population is between 5,000-10,000, and four if their population is over 10,000 inhabitants, must join under the population based membership dues structure.
