The Summit Concept
The Coalition for Citizen Diplomacy is
inviting communities across the United States to hold Community Summits on
Citizen Diplomacy. The purpose of this initiative is to raise awareness of the
Citizen Diplomacy movement, to examine its critical role in advancing U.S.
foreign relations and promoting world peace and understanding, and to increase
international activism at the grassroots level.
Objectives of Community Summits
Community Summits will offer participants the opportunity to learn about Citizen Diplomacy and to share perspectives on how their community and their nation can become more globally engaged. The Summits aim to:
Begin a dialogue about Citizen Diplomacy among a diverse group of citizens from education, business, government, civic, cultural, and faith-based organizations.
Raise awareness of how communities are involved in student and professional exchanges, global education, trade, and other international activities.
Identify new citizen diplomats and how they can contribute to their communities, their country, and the world.
Produce concise findings and action plans for communities and for the National Summit on Citizen Diplomacy.
Launch a long-term process to strengthen the Citizen Diplomacy movement.
