    50th Anniversary Conference - More than 1,000 members will meet in Washington, DC July 13-15, 2006 to mark the 50th Anniversary of Sister Cities International. Be part of a historic event that honors our movement's champions and shapes our next 50 years. Invited speakers include President George W. Bush and former President Bill Clinton.

    International Youth Summit on Global Citizenship -
    More than 200 sister city youth will converge on Washington, DC July 11-16, 2006 to learn how to be effective global leaders.

    Showcase of Young Artists - Young people from throughout the world are encouraged to submit a work of art addressing the theme "What Does Global Citizenship Look Like?" All entries will be displayed during the 50th Anniversary Conference. The deadline to submit entries is April 28, 2006.

    Community Summits on Citizen Diplomacy - Community wide meetings in cities across the US will allow people to share perspectives and make recommendations on how citizens can become more globally engaged. Toolkits and information are available here on our site.

    National Summit on Citizen Diplomacy - This summit will occur in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary Conference, drawing together citizen diplomacy organizations and community summit participants. Utilizing input from the community summits, this event will chart the future of the citizen diplomacy movement.

    Islamic Peace and Friendship Initiative - Local dialogues about Islamic issues will take place in conjunction with the Community Summits on Citizen Diplomacy. The "Partnership and Peace Tour - Morocco" will also take place in March 2006, forging new sister city ties in the Islamic world. (wait list only available)

    Wheelchairs for Peace - Join Sister Cities International and the Wheelchair Foundation in our special Wheelchairs for Peace 50th Anniversary Initiative. Be one of 50 or more communities to fundraise and deliver at least 50 wheelchairs to your sister city in China, Latin America or another developing country. Make a difference in the lives of thousands of individuals living without access to wheelchairs today!

    www.SupportSisterCities.org - Launched at the 2005 Annual Conference, this targeted fundraising website has a goal of helping 50 sister city partnerships raise money for their international projects during the 50th Anniversary year.

    Sister Cities/Sister Schools - This program facilitates direct interaction with students in other countries, helping them to appreciate cultural differences, recognize similarities, and develop a global perspective.

    Sister Cities September Concerts - Sister city programs throughout the world are encouraged to join with the September Concert Foundation to mark this special day - September 11, 2006 - as a day of music and calls for a peaceful world.

    Hewlett Packard-Sister Cities International Youth Global Citizenship Survey - Youth input helps us better understand how today's youth view their role in today's global society. It also enables Sister Cities International to produce more effective youth programs to promote sustainable youth leadership and global citizenship. Ask your youth to take this online survey today (adults should NOT take this survey). 

    Annual Awards and 50th Anniversary Award - In addition to the 44th Annual Awards, Sister Cities International presents the commemorative 50th Anniversary Award, which recognizes all sister city programs which demonstrate the long-term sustainability of their sister city relationships/program. The deadline to submit entries was March 31, 2006.

    50th Anniversary Local Government Leadership Circle - Recognizes the role of elected and appointed government officials during the first half-century of the sister city movement. Nominees will be honored at the 50th Anniversary Conference in Washington, DC.

    50th Anniversary Circle of Distinguished Volunteers - Honors the citizen diplomats who have volunteered with distinction on behalf of sister city partnerships at the local level. Nominees will be honored at the 50th Anniversary Conference in Washington, DC.

    50th Anniversary Commemorative Book - The history of the sister city movement's first half-century will be chronicled through photographs and stories in a commemorative book. 2006 conference attendees will receive a complimentary copy with their registration and additional copies will be available for sale.
