What can I do to get my visa?
It is important to contact you local embassy or consulate as early as possible. Some countries can take 6-8 months to approve a visa, so we encourage you to contact your local embassy or consulate now. It is also important to maintain regular contact with your local embassy or consulate. The more familiar they are with you and your local standing, the more likely you are to receive a visa.
Sister Cities International has an online guide to visas that answer many questions about the process of coming to the U.S. Click here for complete information. In addition, a workshop on visa issues was presented at the 2003 SCI Annual Conference. The materials from the workshop may be helpful to you and can be found here.
Return to Questions
Can Sister Cities International help me get a visa?
All visas are issued through the local U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your area. Sister Cities International is unable to influence the decisions of the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. You must contact the embassy or consulate on your own and complete the appropriate application process. Sister Cities International is able to issue a letter of invitation if you are required to submit one with your visa application.
If you are unsure where the closest U.S. Embassy is, please visit the U.S. Department of State website for a list of Embassies and Consulates throughout the world.
