Keynote speaker Senator George J. Mitchell provided his personal insights as a "peacemaker" and discussed the role that the sister city movement can play in building a more cooperative and peaceful international community.
Seeds of Peace Plenary Session
During this session Hazem Zanoun, a Palestinian Seed, and Karen Karniol-Tambour, and Israeli Seed, shared their personal stories of how they worked to create bridges of friendship where there was once hatred and mistrust. www.seedsofpeace.org

The Spirit of Partnership
Sister Cities International celebrated 5 new formal partnership agreements this year, which included: The Union of Local Authorities in Israel (ULAI), Municipal Association of Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, Union of Russian Cities (URC), The Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities, and a joint agreement with the Local Government International Bureau (LGIB) and Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (SOLACE). With these new agreements, SCI now has 34 formal partnerships!
