     2008 YES Boulder Fact Sheet

Sister Cities International presents its 5th annual YES Leadership Summit in Boulder, Colorado!  The Summit will take place from March 13-16, 2008.  The 2008 summit will be especially unique, and we encourage YES students interested in developing their leadership skills to apply to participate.

Through challenging and fun indoor and outdoor activities, the summit will help students with little previous leadership experience develop their capacity to effectively lead.  By the end of the summit, you will be able to decide what being a leader means to you, and how you can use your leadership skills when you return home.

The YES Youth Leadership Summit has only a limited number of spaces.  To attend the 2008 YES Leadership Summit, you must apply and be selected.  If selected, all your expenses (including airfare) will be paid for.

Applicants must be Youth Exchange and Study (YES) students sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.  YES is a program sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) to provide scholarships for secondary school students from countries with significant Muslim populations to spend up to one academic year in the U.S.

To apply for the YES Boulder Leadership Summit, you must be a YES student placed by one of the following organizations: The Aspect Foundation, AYUSA International, the Center for Cultural Interchange (CCI), the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), the Pacific Intercultural Exchange (PIE), or Youth for Understanding USA (YFU USA).

Please mail your completed application to Mrs. Bethany Rehling, 1301 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington DC 20004.  Applications must be postmarked no later than Friday, November 30, 2007.

Host Families:

The participation of host families is a vital element of the YES Youth Leadership Summit.  If you and your family live in the Boulder area and would like to volunteer as a host family, please contact Mrs. Bethany Rehling at brehling@sister-cities.org, or (202) 347-8630 ext. 8252.

Our students come from all over the Muslim world, and this year the AYUSA consortium will even include students from Mali, Senegal, Bahrain and Ethiopia.  Activities will take place at the Chautauqua Community House, the West Pines ropes course and the University of Colorado.  We hope you will join us as we celebrate the leadership potential of YES students!
